Last call of the day. Was told someone else was there and had to add refrigerant and its not cooling again so do a leak test. So I get to the house and its 85° inside. Its a nice old lady who lives in a mobile home. She says somebody gave her this guys number and he was out on Friday and added 4lbs of freon. On Monday it wasnt cooling so she called him back. He said everything was fine, the pressures were good, and that it was just because its been so hot out and that mobile homes have no insulation. She calls him back on Wednesday and he comes out and says head pressure is a little high and that she would need and new compressor or and new unit. So she then decides to call us today and this is what I find.

I ended up removing 9lbs of freon and openning a closed registar in the living room. This is why she called the first guy to begin with because she couldnt feel any air coming out in the living room. The damn registar was closed thats it. Man how do people sleep at night.

LOL! :lachen:

I have seen dirty condensers do that (high pressure). How were the pressures/temperatures after you adjusted the charge and corrected the airflow situation?

Lol...Just when you think you have seen it all, nice fix kp.

Try flipping the hose holders on your manifold to the front and see how you like it.

You can thank me later. ;)

Also, guard those gauges with your life, the newer ones do not have the "Made in USA" on the bottom, its just blank now, not hard to figure out where they are now made, another quality product down the tubes

I got the same gage set recently (June I think, and it's a Brute II, right?). There had been a problem with leaking valves and the guy at the store said the problem seems to be corrected. Now my charging hose port is leaking like a &^%$*. If I had trusted it I mighta gotten in the same situation as the original post shows. But i sure wouldn'ta left it that way.

The ones in the pic doesnt leak, but my other set does.

I liked the bigger gauges so much I bought some and put them on the series 41 shown it the top pic.

Out of focus but oh well. I customized it with the green wire, and my 410a gage set has pink wire around the hanger

If it ever is labeled as Jellow Yacket it will be more obvious. Hey I could start a new brand name :D

Those four valve manifolds are overkill, just stick with a series 41 and all is good. :)

Wow what was that guy thinking gasing that system up like that?

The only time (once!) that i overcharged a system unintenially like that was when I added a few Lbs of R22 to a package unit that the blower wasn't even operating on! :tard:

That was in my EARLY days and I learned my lesson real quick. I actually caught it right after I overcharged it and it still didn't work. Because I make sure it actually BLOWS COLD AIR before I collect that check!

I always get the multiple problems on a system calls. You know... the apartment supervisor has called you out because he has already added 5 pounds of refrigerant and it's still not working, although he never admits to adding the refrigerant. So I have to recover the refrigerant, figure out what caused the no cool call in the 1st place and correct that. Then verify the charge by superheat and subcooling. It sure has improved my troubleshooting skills!:thumb:

Today I replaced a thermostat on a heat pump system. The old stat was freaked out and dead, showing Korean characters on the display. Tested for shorts from the furnace to the t-stat, put on a new stat. As soon as it called for cooling the new stat went poof. This was an April Aire 8570, expensive. I put on a 3A fuse on the control side of the transformer in the furnace, didn't realize there was none b4.

I looked at the outdoor unit and found a short there. Fixed it and put on new expensive t-stat #2. Working ok now. I'll check for a fuse next time.
