I've also just started a website to show examples of hackery I deal with.
www.hackfreehvac.com (http://www.hackfreehvac.com)
For some reason Hvac-Talk removed my link because I have a forum within my website. But it's not meant to be a fully featured HVAC Pro Forum like them or this one. So who knows why they were so picky.
Anyway I have had like 3 or 4 techs from H-T email me about this new site so thought I'd finally sign up.
See ya around! :)

Dude. You KNOW I will. But if I go commercial MAYBE the hackery count will drop. LOL! But I still have a mission to make more people in my area aware that the lack of code enforcement is contributing to a lot of new equipment to be installed improperly! :lachen:

Yup I know it. But I got my frustration outlet flowing into my new website. And as i said to Ryan, I'll do something to make more people aware.
The last place I worked for laughed in my face when I preached about CODE or PROPER INSTALLATION and said I'd never change a thing and that nobody cares!
Boy that will change a little when it's the end user who cares! :eplus2:

Few men have the courage to stand on principle and it is a shame that they usually do so at their own peril. This is why so few are willing to do the right thing.

Well on my website I represent it as the local area. However it would be AWESOME if some other PROFESSIONAL frequented that forum and posted similar hackery and discussed it. You can upload pix to photobucket and copy and paste image tag on my forum like you can do here. ;)

Well I bit the hand and I'm not there anymore. I am starting a new job. :bump: But yeah, most people wont stand up for nothing when they KNOW they are in the right. Problem is most people in the business here in this area started in the business here and don't realize that this sh*t work isn't nomal everywhere! :tard:
welcome aboard Hackfree
It only gets worse with commercial, but the money is a hell of a lot better.
I have already found that out. When I worked for D.S.C. a few years ago they got lots of NASTY Commercial Work! Problem was they were a commission paid residential company. Thought they'd "get a piece of th ecommercial." So they used "girls in skirts" to go door to door to business' to talk to customers and sign people up on commercial maintenance programs. Problem was girls got paid on commission too. They tok any account even ones I said to "bid high and run!"
Just look at my posts from 2 to 3 years ago! The only good ones from them were some McDonalds accounts and stuff. But lots and lots of 30 yr old units and sheer hackery! Not too mention all of the failed attempts at Pigeon control where lots of people here thought it was a good idea to contruct large nets across the entire commercial rooftop. It didn;t keep the Pigeons out, but made my work more difficult. i.e., check out "Die Pigeons Die!" video Country Girl was asking about and I linked here! :lachen:
Now I am going to be doing commercial work for a quality company who does some restaraunt chain and another LARGE chain of stores. They have accounts that need these units well maintained so they wont want shotty work or excess call backs there. And they are even UNION! I didn't think that existed here! It will be my first experience with that. :thumb:
BTW. I am hearing that the ex employers don't like people seeing their handywork on the internet. Even though they claimed it was just fine! Obviously they don't like professional critics discussing it on H-T, etc!
What is funny is that on their own website where they talk about how to select a good installation company like them it lists all these things to check and what is super funny is they have printed in their own words... "...ask to see installation photos. A dealer that is proud of work will be more than happy to show it to you." That is actually on their website!
And if I could show you the entire website it would crack you up! So many things contrare to how they actually were operating!
I hear that they think they can do something legally about my discussions on H-T and the pictures which have been annonymous. Only THEY would know who was being talked about because they already knoew who I was on that website. I have edited the pictures well to be nothing more than a Trane unit and a wall in almost all cases. But you know. It's the internet. What can they do? And I never mentioned names. I never planned on mentioning names. Just discussing the problem and eventually making local people aware of the problem with improper installations of these new High Efficiency Systems they paid $$$$ for t get what was advertised! That way I can cause some effect on everyone who wants to be a hack and in a round about way effect them.
If I get any heat on it whatsoever legally, I'm going to personally send all of the pictures to every news station and suggest they do an investigation on the proper installation of High Efficiency Systems. News stations love to do stories like that! As well as maybe give some info to their (arch enemy) local competitor that they continuously trash talked! :boid: Ha Ha Ha! He could be the "Good Guy" that goes on the news investigation and mentions Manufacture specs and Codes for proper install and to actually achieve the efficiency that was advertised!
Oh yeah... Does anyone know where I can get some pdf files or similar of where Trane gives installation specs for a XL19i condenser?

XL19 is more of a number for the HOs to look at, if you have the real model number it should be easy enough to search for something like

Holy Smokes!!! Not only have you actually 'seen' the Run Cap Bandit with your own eyes. BUT you caught him on camera! You are truly amazing Sir. When you calculate the actual speed with which he travels throughout this great land of ours installing boxed run capacitors, the odds of such an encounter were truly slim! Great Job!:thumb:
