Crappiest Monday in a long time

Last Friday I was tasked with replacing grilles and return frames in a dentist's office. 11 Supplies and 5 returns. Me, alone, but boss brought stuff by and picked up most of the trash. But, aggravations of getting the old returns out, collars not fitting, splicing flex, fighting insulation sitting on top of the grid, dog-eared some tiles, will have to replace. . . on and on it went. . . up and down the six footer. . . then the roots of a misunderstanding about clean up. It was getting late, and I proceeded to start vacuuming. The building janitor said stop, some one would vacuum on Saturday. There was a lot of dust and debris. I looked him straight in the eye and confirmed, I thought, that this would take place.. . . . should've picked up on the broken English .. . . By this time I was dead on my feet after 10 hours on site, and packed up my stuff, called the owner of the office and told her the janitor would be vacuuming on Saturday, and we would be back to square away the dog eared tiles. . . .my thoughts were things would be taken care of, and I called my boss to say I was leaving, and that I'd spoken with all involved. . . . Guess what happened?. . . .RIGHT, the office did not get vacuumed, and we are embarrassed ( G.M.'s dentist!). . . Of course the mess is laid at my feet, and probably rightly so. Never seen my supervisor so mad, and so colorful in his language, knowhutimean?

Then, lost another puck lock on the van.. . . .

Later had to struggle with mounting a circulating fan in a WIC, ( the aluminum lined insulated walls would not hold the heavy fan with sheet metal screws, so had to go shop for anchors and engineer the mount). . . . .

Then, discovered on two package units we set a couple weeks ago, the foam weatherstripping on the face of the curb adapters and the top of the old curbs did not match ( had leaks after a heavy, windy rainy day last week). . .

Boss also complains I'm too slow, so got a Dr. appointment for 2/9. I am thinking, this is January, and I am wore out, this summer is going to be Hell, if I don't get some energy.. . . .

    Hope things are better tomorrow!

Thanks for the understanding. . . what seems to bother me the most is, that I took my eye of the ball, and sure enough, everything turned to sh_t. I REALLY hate to disappoint anyone, but especially my boss. Rebuilding trust, . . .ya know?

At the end of the day, I am still standing, though certainly humbled.

So why didn't the boss give you a helper? For a job like that a second pair of hands is always a good thing. Maybe he thinks every job is a one man affair, sometimes that's the way our shop works.

i had a day like that once.

    got me fired too.

and the shit wasn't even my fault.

years after the fact, and i'm still ready to break a nose over that.

seen the peckerhead that got me fired a couple months back.

the only thing that stopped me from beating his ass, was a chick on a ten-speed.

Everyone has days like that, sometimes I have dumb shit happen to me like that and I will be foul for weeks. Then something nice will happen out of nowhere and all is good again.

I try to not let it get to me like it used too. Take a walk, talk it out, smoke a dube, whatevers your pleasure. There is other stuff you should have your mind focussed on than dumb shit. Everything will be alright!

Don't let that shit consume you, in the grand scheme of things it don't amount to a pisshole in a snowbank... things like that get forgotten pretty quickly.

im sure you are right. i guess it was an inside joke. very seldom do any of are curbs come to the feild with the correct dimensions, let alone any type of sealing type system. i had one over the summer that was blowing so much cold air around the curb the roof was condensating... the fix was foil tape. we dont have time for anything else! oh well

When I estimate a job I figure one hour for each piece of air distribution on a "normal" job. Removing the old ad above the ceiling with insulation, and then installing the new would make this an "un-normal" job. Sixteen grilles is a lot for one guy to do in a day.

As far as the clean up, the maintenance guy said he'd clean it up. Not you fault he didnt. Dont beat yourself up. Just one of those times when things dont work out.
