I am in need of a new meter. I was taught by the old salts that digitals were not as accurate as the slings. These same guys still use analog meters. Wiggies. LOL. I have to get a new one and was wanting to have opinions on sling versus digital. I owned and broke a digital last year. I have a digital now thats going crazy and need a new one. When I was heavy into EMS a few years back, you know any ems system basically uses the same crap that any hand held digital meter uses to arrive at the measurment value. Are we splitting atoms with a sling versus digital or is there something to this? What digitals do you guys reccomend?
Sling is the way to go for spot checks. I wave that around in offices. It's a great way to meet the girls. They all come up to me ask what is that and why are you doing it. On the other hand a data logger for RH and Temp is the bomb when used over time with the software to generate reports.
Brother i blow through those things every year. I havent found one i truly liked yet, using an amp prober brand now, its ok. The old slings are ok, IF you calibrate them properly, but the bulbls get broken. Let me know if you find one you like, i would recommend testo, except their manifolds.
That's the one I use as well but I also have a sling the sling is dead on amp is always off + - 3-5 %
Hard to take readings inside the duct with a sling, that is a new capability available to us with the digitals, The Testo 605-H2 is nice for that If you just want to take readings in a space, a sling works fine for that, really all depends on what you want to do
usually measuring space temp around cases in supermarkets. I use to use a sling a long time ago and I am getting tired of buying a new digital every flipin year. Think I am going back to a sling. Bachrach. The old stand by.
I've had both and really it didn't make alot of differance, but I kinda prefer a sling, the damn digital ones die too fast for me, had a fluke it died after about 3 yrs and 2 uses and they wanted about 160 to repair with replacement, screw that and had Testo good for a while but got out of cal and couldn't get it right, but a sling is always right just have to be a little more fragile with them Swampy, if you make a hole in the duct big enough for the sling, just stick it ( the thermometers) in the duct so the thermometers are facing the air flow, and let the fan do the slinging for you That's how we did it before the digital stuff came out But actually I have a calibrated finger that can tell RH, temp, and even amp draw
Actually, it is very hard to get a good, accurate reading with a sling. For correct wet bulb measurement, you need a precise range of air velocity across the wick. Either drop the coin on a digital. I've got 2 and both are within a degree of each other OR, go big and get a Cole/Parmer scientific. http://cgi.ebay.com/COLE-PARMER-PSYCHROMETER-3312-20-HVAC-PSYCHRO-DYNE-/130499517107 One of our customers is so concerned about humidity problems and the different readings that guys were getting with different meters, they actually bought a bunch of these and provided the contractors with them.
Not really, take three reading and average, if that isn't close enough for your customer, you will never be able to satisfy them anyway Been there done that
