Anybody have any opinions? Apparently amprobe makes one and inficon has the whisper. I'm just looking for a new tool for the arsenal.

Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated

I have an Amprobe and it's great for the hard to find leaks. Pump up a system to 250, 300 psi, it will lead you right to the leak.

i'm interested in getting an ultrasonic.

how bad of a problem is background noise?

do you sort of move a wand along the lines until you hear a sound?

It depends on the size of the leak ..... I usually use this one first ..... Second the h-10 ..... Outside in the wide the h-10 doesnt work well .... How much do they cost now ? Seems like mine was just over 100 bucks years ago

OK, you guys just made me buy an Amprobe ULD-300. Thanks a lot for shaming me into another tool....................:banghead:

Actually I know I need a better leak detector then the CPS that I have now. Maybe I didn't need that Fieldpiece SMAN3, when I've got 2 Testo's 550. Oh well I'm a tool whore..................:bump:

FWIW Superior Signal is changing the VPE to have a flexible wand on the end soon.
It's MUCH better than my old Amprobe.

Not sure which Amprobe model I have but I can tell you it's an old one that is no longer made.
The ultrasonic works OK but you sometimes need to boost the system pressure up to make the leak louder.
Background noise can be a problem and fluorescent lights seem to make a lot of noise on them.
When you find a leak or two with them, you'll certainly know it. I suggest using your H10 or other detector, then when you find a leak get out the ultrasonic to hear what it sounds like.
